News You Can Use

This year's presidential campaign poses new challenges for news-magazines, tasked with presenting fast-changing election coverage and other news on a dizzying array of tablets and technologies that go beyond print. D.W. Pine of TIME, Dirk Barnett of Newsweek Daily Beast and Josh Klenert ofHuffington magazine kick off this year's SPD Speaker Series on Sept. 10, sharing their strategies for designing news of all kinds for multiple platforms -- tablets, websites and print -- and taking questions from moderator Joe Zeff of Joe Zeff Design. The conversation continues afterward with an opportunity to network with the speakers and other attendeees.

The Society of Publication Designers (SPD)

SPD is a membership organization dedicated to promoting and encouraging excellence in editorial design across all print and digital platforms.  Our members are art directors, designers, photo editors, photographers, illustrators and information graphics professionals, editors and students.

Since drafting its charter in 1965, SPD remains the only organization specifically addressing the visual concerns of print and digital editorial professionals, whether that be journalism, storytelling, service or more. Editorial design plays a crucial role in shaping and documenting our common history; as such, the efforts of the Society serve to educate and enlighten our members, and the general public about the importance of magazines, newspapers, and other publications.
